Game 1 of the most anticipated series of the NHL Playoffs featured the #6 seeded Montreal Canadiens upsetting the #3 ranked Boston Bruins. The teams have built up quite the rivalry; not only because of the history of these 2 franchises meeting in the playoffs, but also because of some turmoil and controversy that occurred in their 6 regular season games during the regular season.
For the Canadiens to come into Boston and have their way with the Bruins was very discouraging for the players, the coaches and the fans. Naturally, some players say nothing while others make excuses to justify the loss.
Here are the Top 10 Boston Bruins Excuses for Losing Game 1:
10 – Marc Savard “I don’t remember”
9 – Tomas Kaberle “My conditioning levels were terrible. My body is used to my 10 year routine of shutting down after 82 games.”
8 – Zdeno Chara “I blame myself. My defense coach has very strict matchups for me to follow, but I swear I never know who I’m on the ice against.”
7 – Brad Marchand “Its hard to win when the refs don’t know the rules. Someone tell them it’s not offside if my nose is over the line.”
6 – Claude Julien “I’m pretty sure the guys lost on purpose. I told them before the game that we should play like the Habs, which they thought meant that we should take a dive.”
5 – Mark Recchi “I apologize that I was not as sharp as my teammates. Keep in mind that it’s not easy being both the second line RW and the team doctor.”
4 – Michael Ryder “Kobe Bryant found out that I’ve played for both teams, so he spent the game heckling me with anti-gay slurs.”
3 – Milan Lucic “I followed what I thought was the gameplan but I didn’t realize it was on the other side of the paper coach gave me. All I read was the writing on the first page: ‘PLEASE TURN OVER’”
2 – Gregory Campbell “I was distracted by my father in the stands. Every time he stood up to cheer, his pants fell off. I guess he doesn’t know how to suspend them.”
1 – The Bruins players were simply listening to some advice from the Philadelphia Flyers – “wait until game 4 to start trying.”
