Diamondbacks Rally Late to Avoid Sweep

The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a three-game sweep to the San Francisco Giants by rallying in the 12th inning, 6-5.
Stephen Drew drove in Justin Upton with the winning run on a ground ball single to right field off LHP Javier Lopez.
Josh Collmenter (1-0) retired all six batters he faced in his major league debut for the win. The victory snapped the Diamondbacks four-game losing streak. Barry Enright pitched 5 1/3 IP/ 4K/ 4ER/ 2 BB/ 5K. The right-hander is winless in three starts this season.
Justin Upton hit his 4th home run of the season in the fifth inning. Diamondbacks’ relievers allowed only 2 base runners over the final 7 innings.
Final Score: Diamondbacks win 6-5
In the middle game of the series, Joe Saunders (0-2) continued to struggle. The left-hander pitched 6 2/3IP/ 12H/ 5ER/ 2BB/ 2K.
Buster Posey hit a two-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring. The Diamondbacks tied the game in the second inning following a two-run double by Miguel Montero off starter Barry Zito. Freddy Sanchez doubled in the tying run in the sixth inning then put San Francisco up for good with a two-run single in the seventh.
Barry Zito left the game in 2nd inning with a sprained ankle. Willie Bloomquist went 0-4 ending his 10-game hitting streak.
Final Score: Giants win 5-3
The Arizona Diamondbacks hosted the San Francisco Giants in a weekend series beginning on Jackie Robinson Night.
Daniel Hudson (0-3) pitched 6IP/ 6H/ 4ER/ 3BB/ 10K. The right-hander allowed a long three-run home run to Pablo Sandoval in the first inning. Hudson matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts despite taking the loss.
Matt Cain (2-0) was dominant in his six innings limiting the Diamondbacks’ hitters to only 4H/ 1ER/ 2BB/ 3K. Willie Bloomquist accounted for both Arizona runs with a sacrifice fly in the seventh-inning and an RBI single in the ninth.
Hudson has received only 1 run of support in his three starts this season. Willie Bloomquist extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Steve Demel and Esmerling Vasquez combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
Final Score: Giants win 5-2
