With the return of Manu means the return of the heart and soul of the Spurs.
Timmy and TP9 are great players but Manu drives this team. Right out of the gates yesterday, Manu is on th floor going after loose balls and making hustle plays that no one else on the team can do. His leadership by example is the most impotant thing he brings to the team and nobody in the league can match his will to win.
Some may say that even with Manu back we still only won by a few points. True but the Spurs aren’t playing their best basketball yet. It just hasn’t clicked yet but with Manu back, it’s about to click. Notice how intense the defense was? With Manu out there, the whole team steps up.
Randolph is still rebound like crazy but most of his rebounds are defensive. The reason for that is the Spurs are sending 2 to 3 guys to the boards. It’s these kind of adjustments that seperate the Spurs and the rest of the league. Thats why in a 7 game series, the Spurs are the toughest team. It doesn’t mean that every series will be easy. It means the Spurs are capable of taking a blow or two but they will dish out the final blow.
The Spurs are just like Manny Pacquiao, he takes your best punches early then beats you up in the later rounds.
Game 3 the Grizzlies will have their crowd behind them so expect them jump out early but their inability to pull away will allow the Spurs to make a run and take control of the game. I see Goerge Hill having a real good game.
