Hanley’s April Swoon Needs to End

“Liz Franc” has been a cold woman to some of the best athletes in Miami. Tuesday night she claimed her latest victim, and the Marlins’ hottest hitter. Logan Morrison says he felt a pop in his foot as soon as he left the box. He’d go on to play two more innings against the Pirates before ultimately deciding to come out because his movement was severely compromised. Morrison was the team’s leader in RBI (11) and Homeruns (4), which up until Tuesday was half of the team’s total. The sprain of his left Lisfranc will have him missing at least the next two weeks.  The injury leaves the Florida needing Hanley Ramirez to snap out of his April funk. The star shortstop has still not hit a homerun, and has just four doubles. He’s had one 3 hit game this season. He hasn’t hit in three straight games since the opening series.

Hanley’s settled down in the field but now it’s time that he produce at the plate

Ramirez comes into this 3 game set against the Rockies .222 and slugging .314. Fans were up in arms last year at this time when Hanley’s lack of production. This time last year he had just 4 doubles and one homerun but he was hitting .327 with a .431 OBP. No one doubts Hanley’s talents but many around the game feel that he’s losing his grip as the best shortstop in baseball.  In the mountain time zone, Troy Tulowitzki is simply killing it for the Rockies. He is pacing the League in home runs and has been the best player on the Major League’s best team. Tulowitzki always had the superior glove to Ramirez, but now he’s producing more. The Marlins are in a good spot tied with the Phillies atop the NL East at the start of this weekend. However the Fish can’t continue to rely on Scott Cousins and Gregg Dobbs for run production if they plan on staying in the division race.  A three game set with baseball hottest team is on tap for the weekend and fans are just hoping that this is the series Hanley finally turns it around.
