So just like that, the 2010-11 Montreal Canadiens season has come to an end. I was incredibly disappointed with how the game ended last night, but when looking at the big picture, you have to be satisfied with how the Habs pushed the Boston Bruins to a game 7 overtime. Its frustrating that 3 of the 4 Bruins wins were in overtime – one extra bounce going Montreal’s way in one of those 3 games would have resulted in a Habs-Caps rematch!
Regardless, its over, and while Habs fans can watch the rest of the playoffs wondering what could have been, be proud that players like PK Subban and Carey Price are establishing themselves as world class players; be proud that Mike Cammalleri had another great playoff performance; and be proud that your team gave everything they could have given.
In an effort to summarize the Habs season, please refer to the poem below:
If you think losing to the Bruins in round one blows,
Look in the mirror and be happy you don’t have Brad Marchand’s nose.
Despite the disappointment, there are many positives to see,
That diagnosis was confirmed by Mark Recchi, MD.
Carey Price answered his critics, and proved he is one of the best goalies around,
He played 72 games, because Auld’s talent is like his hair, nowhere to be found.
Up front we had Cammalleri, in the playoffs he was on fire,
He did it playing with Kostitsyn, who doesn’t even perspire.
Gionta was -6 in the playoffs, his lack of size overshadowed that he’s quick,
If he only he could somehow become as tall as Hal Gill’s stick.
David Desharnais has hands that leave defensemen confused and fans in awe,
Jeff Halpern won a ton of faceoffs, the odd time he didn’t get kicked out of the draw.
Lars Eller showed that he belongs in the NHL, that should no longer be a discussion,
And the future is bright for Pacioretty, who is so skilled that he can fake a concussion.
The biggest negative was Scott Gomez; a player who fans want to slaughter,
He scores goals and puts up points like Zdeno Chara drinks water.
The D featured PK Subban, who shoots and passes with such precision,
There was talk of sending him down, but Darren Pang says they made the white decision.
Wiz has come a long way since his oral sex gesture, he now does great things with the puck,
Although he may want to do it one more time, to creatively tell Benoit Pouliot “you suck”
Hamrlik and Sopel were often paired with Spacek, which made it difficult to play,
But they performed the best cover-up job, since Jack Edwards bought his toupee.
Don’t forget about Gorges coming back next year, he’s always steady and alert.
They may even re-sign Markov, who is good for 10 great games before he gets hurt.
Next season looks promising, up the standings the Habs will climb,
Hopefully they’ll learn how to win a playoff game in overtime.
