Diamondbacks Take Two from Phillies

The Arizona Diamondbacks bid for a three-game series sweep over the high powered Philadelphia Phillies ended abruptly.

Joe Saunders (0-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 10H/ 6ER/ 1BB/ 8K.  The left-hander allowed the first three Phillies batters to reach base safely before Ben Francisco hit a ground-rule double to make the score 3-0.  Saunders continues to struggle pitching in the desert.

Cole Hamels (3-1) pitched seven solid innings limiting the Diamondbacks’ offense to three runs on four hits to salvage the final game of the series.

Chris Young hit two home runs in the game to provide most of the offense.  Melvin Mora added an RBI single.

The Diamondbacks open a four-game series tonight against the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field.  Barry Enright is scheduled to make his fifth start of the season.

Final Score: Phillies win 8-4

Daniel Hudson (1-4) pitched six effective innings allowing 6IP/ 10H/ 3ER/ 0BB/ 6K en route to his first win of the season.  The right-hander smacked a two-run double off Roy Oswalt in the second inning to put the Diamondbacks ahead for the remainder of the game.

Ryan Roberts continued his strong start with his fifth home run of the season.  The super utility player has performed exceptionally well in the starting lineup.

Two games, two aces defeated.  Roy Oswalt (3-1) was not sharp in his three innings allowing 6H/ 5ER/ 1BB/ 0K.  The right-hander left the team for personal reasons following his sub par performance.

Final Score: Diamondbacks win 7-5

Ian Kennedy (3-1) pitched the game of his life on Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.  The right-hander fired a three-hit shut out the day after welcoming his first child into world.  Kennedy located all of his pitches and overwhelmed the Phillies batters in a classic pitcher’s duel.

9IP/ 3H/ 0R/ 0BB/ 10K

This was the best performance by a Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher since Edwin Jackson no-hit the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

Chris Young and Gerardo Parra supplied the offense each hitting home runs off the $120 million dollar man, Cliff Lee.

Final Score: Diamondbacks win 3-0
