Vintage Colon halts Bombers’ losing streak

Newsflash! The New York Yankees’ two-game losing streak, their longest of the year, is over thanks to yet another remarkable performance from seasoned righty Bartolo Colon. In an eight-inning, seven hit performance, Colon held the White Sox to just one run and struck out six. He looked nothing like a pitcher who sat out all of last season and more like the Cy Young Award winner in 2005.

Colon opened up the possibility of a series split with Chicago after the Yankees dropped two close games on Monday and Tuesday. In the first game, Phil Humber allowed just one hit in seven innings against the Bombers’ anemic looking offense.

In other news, Nick Swisher is awaiting his first homer of the year and Eric Chavez, another Yankees’ recycling project, is playing some great baseball. Chavez is batting .348 in 12 games and is playing some excellent D, allowing A-Rod some rest and the opportunity to DH a bit.

The Bombers are two games ahead of Tampa Bay going into Thursday’s game against the White Sox.
