Game 1 of Mavs and Lakers was an exciting one to watch no matter who your allegiance is with. Both teams had their ups and downs over the course of game 1. A fast forward of the game might look like this. Mavs and Lakers pretty much trade buckets until late in the second half. Kobe is in the zone. Terry commits shooting foul 70 feet from the basket. Dirk gets T’d up with elbow at Artest. Lakers up 9 at half. Mavs turn ball over on first three possessions of second half. Kobe still zonin. Lakers have all the momentum and up 16 into the third quarter. And then the plot thickens…
The Mavs fight and claw their way back until late in the fourth quarter. With the Lakers up by one and possession of the ball Jason Kidd, who had some uncharacteristic turnovers earlier in the game, played excellent defense using his frame and strength to body up to Kobe trying to compensate for difference in quickness between the two. Kobe does get into the lane because, well he is Kobe, but there to meet his was Tyson Chandler forcing Kobe to make a desperation pass that was intercepted by Terry. Dirk hits two free throws at the line putting the Mavs up by one. The Lakers turned the ball over again on the next possession as Kobe fell coming off a screen. Kidd hit one of two from the line to put the Mavs up by a deuce. So, last possession, Lakers down 2…and good defense, a missed Kobe 3 pointer and the Mavs walked out of the Staple Center with a 94-96 win and a 1-0 series lead. The Lakers put only 2 points on the board in last three and an half minutes. They looked lost at times and stood around and watched Kobe play at others. The Laker bigs did not have particularly good games. Kobe was very displeased with the play of Pau Gasol after the game. The Mavs showed mental toughness to overcome some bad decisions and played good in the clutch. Obviously this was a big win for the Mavs who hope to carry the game 1 momentum into game 2 on Wednesday.
I’ll be watching. Will you?

I was born in Dallas, TX and raised in the suburb of Coppell, TX. I grew up eating and breathing sports. I "buy local" when it comes to my teams, Mavs, Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, Longhorns. I am 28 years old and currently live in Wisconsin where I graduated college from the Univerisy of Wisonsin Whitewater with a degree in health, human performance and recreation with a minor in coaching. I still follow my teams just as much now as when I am living back in Texas, they're just a little harder to see in person now. However, I follow all major sports and teams and love a good debate.
