Can the Green Bay Packers go 16-0?

To even begin thinking about a perfect season is foolishness. To lose a game in the NFL is too simple. One miraculous catch is all it takes for the dream of a perfect season to vanish into thin air. Just ask the New England Patriots what it feels like to taste perfection only to have it so brutally stolen from your lips.
The Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl last year with 15 players on IR. Of those 15, Ryan Grant, Jermichael Finley and Nick Barnett were key players. The Packers also lost Charles Woodson and Donald Driver, two of their best players, during the actual Super Bowl. These are impressive feats and need to be understood as such, but can we expect more this season? Do the Packers have what it takes to go 16-0 and repeat as Super Bowl Champions?
The fact that I am asking this questions will probably result in the Packers losing twice to the Bears, Lions and Vikings and making me pull my hair out of my head, but in all seriousness, I think the Packers could do it. There is no doubting the amount of talent that the Packers have and now that they have won the “big game”, this team has the experience to match the talent.
Aaron Rodgers leads the most high powered offense in the NFL. Greg Jennings as established himself as a top five receiver. Jordy Nelson has a breakout performance in the Super Bowl, along with rookie running back James Starks. Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley are back from injury and should be able to contribute to an already potent offense immediately. The offensive line was steady last year and first-round draft pick Derek Sherrod should provide some much needed depth.
The Packers defense was tenacious, aggressive and fun to watch. Clay Matthews, B.J. Raji and Charles Woodson provide the star power, but the Packers defense is so much more than those players. Tramon Williams, Nick Collins and Sam Shields round out one of the best secondaries. A.J. Hawk, Desmond Bishop and Ryan Pickett provide stability in the front seven. They force you to make mistakes and then capitalize on them beautifully.
While a perfect season might be a longshot, could it be possible? Could the 1972 Dolphins be shaking in their old man rocking chairs every time the Packers step onto the field? Could a generation of avid sports fans finally see a perfect season in the NFL? We will find out on September 8th when the Packers open their season against the New Orleans Saints.
