Stephen Brunt of the Globe and Mail, and now a report has been put up on NHL.com confirming that the NHL is returning to Winnipeg!
The Atlanta Thrashers have been (or shortly will be) sold to True North Sports and Entertainment. I expect a announcement as early as tomorrow but most likely Tuesday after the long weekend.
Congratulations Winnipeg. The party is currently starting on Portage and Main!
Also take a moment to reflect on the feelings of the true Thrashers fans in Atlanta who are having their team ripped from them. It’s too bad there just weren’t enough of them.
Have a good one Winnipeg!

Ya it really looks like it is done…..why would you keep saying this deal is done when it clearly isn’t?
You wrote on May 12th stating the following:
Thankfully for the hockey fans in Winnipeg and unfortunately for the fans in Atlanta it is now a matter of days until the NHL announces that the Atlanta Thrashers will be heading north to the city of Winnipeg immediately.
Personally I wouldn’t be jumping the gun on this. This is the NHL we are talking about, the one league in the world that clearing doesn’t have its stuff together. Just my take on the whole pathetic situation involving a league that doesn’t know how to operate a successful entity.

I am kicking myself in the butt a little bit about it. I know the deal is done, six other outlets have reported it done too.
I honestly didn’t expect delays in the announcement and thinking back on it I guess considering it’s the NHL I should have LOL
What I am going to do is when this is 100% done I’m going to write a ‘timeline story’ and share what I learned and when. I think it will make a lot more sense on where I was right (Atlanta) and where I really jumped the gun and listened to the wrong source (Phoenix)
It will be amusing and shed a lot of light on where I have been coming from on these stories.
And no I am not backing off of Atlanta is a done deal between TNSE and ASG. The relocation fee part of it has been sticky between the NHL and ASG.
All I know is that someone needs to write a book about the past 2+ years in regards to PHX, ATL, and WPG!

Atlanta was never a hockey town. Winnipeg should have never had their team taken inth first place. Asking the people of Winnipeg how Atlant’s 14 hockey fans feel is inaccurate because those 14 Atlanta hockey fans have now lost TWO NHL franchises
