How About Some Negative “Tex” Messages

As a minute by minute observer of all things in the Yankee universe I am sometimes befuddled by those that escape the criticism of such a rabid fanbase and the most hard core media group in all of sports.
Yes the lastest Bronx Zoo tease involved a little controversy with Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter about Posada dropping to 9th in the order for a nationally televised game against the Red Sox. That was a blip on the radar and below minor. Most Yankees take their lumps at some point during a season and justifiably so. You play for the best and get paid serious dollars that is what you are going to get
In my opinion one man takes far too many hits and another gets too few. Even after delivering a World Series title in 2009 and excercising his PED demons Alex Rodriguez seemingly plays a role in everything wrong with this team. I am often convinced A-Rod could rescue kids from a burning building and the media would complain about how he carried them out and set them on the ground.
On the other hand you have Mark Teixeira who continues to choke in the clutch and gets a free pass from the masses. I mean Tex is hitting .250 with 10 homers and 25 RBI’s. That is the quietest 10 and 25 I have seen on May 20th in my 25 years of watching the game. What has he done since that first week of the season? Not much!
Look I get Teixeira is incredible in the field and is great in the clubhouse. To me that is all gravy. Tex makes $23 million a season. He should get knocked when he doesn’t get big hits. That at-bat he had last Friday against Jonathan Papelpon in the 9th was something I would expect from Nick Swisher.
Mark Teixiera needs to carry this club a little more when it is slumping. I get tired of the criticism when the Yankees play bad that they are too old. You didn’t hear that those first 3 weeks in April. Every team in baseball has aging veterans not just the Yanks. The Yankees problem is that guys in their prime like Mark Teixiera don’t step up enough. So the next time Tex doesn’t come through think about how he rarely has and give him some heat.
