I was wrong, the Angels had the scouting report on Trevor Cahill. Facing him for the first time this season, I was surprised–joking. Cahill is one of the AL’s top pitchers, but the Angels went back to back on him in the 7th inning to beat the rising righty. Torii Hunter and Alberto Callaspo did the damage to Cahill.
Ervin Santana should start every game against the A’s. He has won 13 games versus his AL West competitors. In his last 2 starts, Santana has been lights out, throwing 15 innings while allowing only 1 earned run. What happened to Santana’s elbow injury? Remember a few years ago, Santana came down with an elbow problem that many were predicting would require major surgery. The Angels said all he needed was rest, and they knew what they were talking about. Not a peep from him, or his elbow, since he rested.
Raise your hand if you thought Reggie Willits was headed for a solid career, with the Angels or someone else? 2007 he hit .293, while stealing 27 bases. He looked like the perfect 4th outfielder, or starter if things presented itself. He had 430 at bats that year, but only 407 since. Actually, in his 3 years since, or one year before, Willits has never match any of his statistics, even if you combine them all. I, for one, felt last year was it for the 29 year old, as an Angel, but back he came. He deserves a chance to play. I don’t think his .059 average is indicative of the talent he has. I guess he is the 2011 version of Robb Quinlan, but I never felt Quinlan was that talented a player. I think Willits is, and this should be his last in a Halo uniform, but I’ve been wrong before.
It has to be tough to be an Oakland fan. The A’s have an amazing history, in Kansas City and Oakland, but in the stadium they play in right now, they can’t compete for very long. Brett Anderson is another of the stable of pitchers that probably won’t wear an A’s uniform a few years from now, either by trade or free agency. The A’s have a small window to win. Anderson is signed through 2014, Cahilll through 2015, It’s not a issue right now with Gio Gonzalez or the injured Dallas Braden, but it will become one.
If you compare the A’s and the Angels lineup from Thursday, look at the homegrown talent. Of the players the Angels used, 7 of them came from their system. The A’s used 11 players, only 2 came from their system. 2 good ones though in Anderson and Kurt Suzuki. As a matter of fact, the A’s have only developed 2 players on their 25 man roster–Suzuki and Landon Powell. I just feel fortunate that the Angels now develop talent, as they used to be the team full of other teams castoffs.
I will not waiver from Oakland winning the West, based on pitching, but I think it’ll be a tight race till the end.
Thank you Oakland for replacing Anderson in the 9th. The Angels had no answer for the guy, but they solved Grant Balfour with ease. At least Mark Trumbo did, smashing a 3-rn home run off the guy in the 9th. New Angel Russell Branyan almost tied the game, but his wall died at the wall. Nice first AB for Branyan. Angels lost 4-3, but split the 4 game series with their rivals from the north.
I’m a bit concerned about Maicer Izturis. Izturis average has dropped from .340 on May 2nd, to its current average of .302. Is it a good or bad thing that I am concerned about a guy, who until this year was mostly a utility player. Unfortunately, he may be the one guy the Angels can ill afford to lose to injury, or slump.
The Angels head to Minnesota for a 3 game series. It’ll be nice for the fans to see Torii Hunter, who I believe will end his career in a Twins uniform.

O'kay I'll talk about myself a little. I've been working in the television/radio industry for over 21 years. I started at 2 so I am just a tad over 21 (That is a joke). My career has taken me around and and even out of the United States. Right now I call Vegas home, but I just never know where life will take me next. Until 2002 my irrational love for the California/Anaheim/LAA had taken me down some very dark roads, but with Arte Moreno in charge I finally saw the a light at the end of the road. I really love most every sports and having as much fun as possible.
