Angels have big game Hunter on their roster

On paper, If you look at the Angels roster, quick strike ability doesn’t come to mind. Not a lot of power just a lot of slap hitters. So when the Angels were down 6-1 to the Royals after 2 innings on a glorious Memorial Day, I thought the game was over.
What I didn’t know was Torii Hunter past success against Kansas City. 28 career home runs for the Angels wily veteran against KC. I should say 30 career home runs. Hunter single-handidly brought the Halos back from the dead. His first home run brought the Halos to within 1 run in the 8th inning, while the 2nd gave the Angels the lead in the 9th. Not bad for a guy that the game has passed by. The crow I continue to eat, sucks.
Everything was upside down on Monday. Ervin Santana gave up 6 runs in 2 innings, but pitched 4 more scoreless innings. Kevin Jepsen and Fernando Rodney shut the Royals out for the past 2+ innings of the game. Maicer Izturis and Erick Aybar had none of the Angels 15 hits, no stolen bases for the Halos. Cats and dogs livin together, what was going on?
Just like they did against the Twins, the Angels don’t give up.
They also did something else? The knocked the Royals Joakim Soria out of the closers role. The former all-star was demoted after the game. I’ll believe that when I see it.
The Halos looked like they would make Tuesday’s game less stressful. After scoring 2 in the first, Joel Pineiro gave up 6 unanswered runs as the Angels lost game 2, 7-3.
I guess the signing of Russell Branyan has lit a fire under Mark Trumbo. Since Branyan arrival on the 26th of May, Trumbo is hitting .333.
Oh yeah, Branyan is still struggling. In 17 at bats he has 2 hits and 8 strike outs. If it keeps Trumbo playing like he is now, keep him around.
Jeff Francis is a good pitcher, but against the Angels he is Lefty Grove. This year, in two starts, he has given up just 4 earned runs in 14 innings. In all my time following the Angels, they have always hated facing crafty left handers.
What’s up with Jeff Mathis? He has 4 hits in the past 2 games. Has the arrival of Hank Conger lit a fire under him?
I would bet that in a race, Peter Bourjos would beat Trumbo 20 out of 20 times, but on the field, Bourjos has 6 stolen bases, while Trumbo has 5. Doesn’t sound possible, but it is.
It’ll change, but do you know the Angels have played more games in Kansas City, than against their division rival Seattle Mariners? After tomorrow, it’ll be 7 games .vs KC, and only 2 against the Mariners.
Lately, It seems like the Angels have been winning more than losing, but they have actually lost 16 of 30 games in May. Bring on June. Unfortunately, the Angels, after playing the Royals on June 1st, get the Yankees when they get home.
Early game tomorrow. Tyler Chatwood for the Angels. Felipe Paulino goes for KC.
