The 2011 CFL season technically starts Canada Day weekend, but the foundation for the upcoming season is being laid out starting this weekend. All 8 teams begin training camp & it’s a different look for every team. Most notably the 2 time defending Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes as the team that will take the field this June 30th will be vastly different than the one who raised Earl Grey’s mug in chilly Edmonton six months ago.
Gone from the Alouettes’ nest are notable players such as Avon Cobourne, Damon Duval, Andrew Hawkins, Matthieu Proulx & the legendary Ben Cahoon, who called it a career after 13 glorious seasons. Showing up for training camp will be players such as former NFLer Ahman Green, Sean Whyte, Kitwana Jones & Dwight Anderson. Despite all these changes there’s that constant reassurance that the resilient & seemingly reborn Anthony Calvillo (recovering wonderfully from his cancer scare & more focused than ever) will lead whoever he’s paired with to the promised land. And for that, you can thank the coaching of Marc Trestman & the football acumen of general manager Jim Popp. If you’re an Alouettes fan, you can’t help but be confident & start making plans for yet another Grey Cup trip this fall.
Follow me as I start posting my thoughts & opinions on the Als from training camp this weekend to hopefully that trip to Vancouver in late November. I’ve been a proud fan of this team from their return to Montreal in 1996 & my passion for this team is not something I shy away from. I’ve been very fortunate to follow this team very closely thanks to Twitter & friendships I’ve made with Alouettes players & personnel. I’m looking forward to sharing what I see with you all!

GO ALS GO!
