Jerry Jones Among Owners in Secret Meeting

It is being reported that select owners like Jerry Jones of the Cowboys, Art Rooney of the Steelers, John Mara of the Giants and Robert Kraft of the Patriots among a handful of others, along with Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA’s DeMaurice Smith met in Chicago this Wednesday. It is also being reported that the meeting was intended to come up with a revised plan to end the lockout.
Now it is still speculation that this meet was intended to bring an end to the lockout, or that the meeting even really took place, though this many owners and top NFL executives being in the same city in the same area cannot be that extraordinary coincidence. What is interesting about this “super secret” meeting, is the specific owners that were present. Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft are owners of two of the highest revenue drawing teams in the league, along with some of the other present owners, leaving is safe to assume that these owners have a little bit more pull around the league as far as revenue sharing is concerned and ultimately have a large say in what goes. So if a new approach were to be created it would be safe to say that these owners would be present, as it appears that they were.
The real question I would pose is, why would they want to keep this meeting a secret? It seems probable that the big wigs were in attendance to have some discussion, and if they are indeed trying to work something out then letting the public know about it would be paramount. Especially with the public beginning to sour with the longevity of the lockout and the cloud of a lockout becoming more and more possible as the season nears. You would think that the mere suggestion that the two sides are willing to lay down their arms and begin to negotiate would bring some relief to the tension building in some fans over the lockout.
Perhaps it has to do with idea that some owners were actually clueless to the fact that a meeting was to even take place. Let’s face it, these owners are mostly billionaires and not easily left out. Which could conceivably cause some serious backlash were they to view it that way, especially if a new game plan is being drawn up without their say. Whether or not this leads to an end to the lockout is still to be determined, as I said before it is still mostly speculation that the meeting occurred or was intended to draw up a new plan. However, at this point even a hint of good news IS good news. Wouldn’t you guys agree?
