A rough series against the D’Backs had me wondering if the Astros would ever get something going this season, then came a series sweep against the Cubs in Chicago.
The Astros offense hasn’t looked this good in a long time. 22 runs scored in three games at Wrigley. The highlight of the series for me has to be Jordan Lyles making his Major League debut. Lyles threw first pitch strikes the majority of the night. His fastball wasn’t over powering but his location was spot on. Lyles didn’t strike many out besides Zambrano who broke his bat over his leg after one his strikeouts but got threw the Cubs lineup without to much trouble until a late inning mistake where Lyles fielded a bunt and threw to third instead of first where catcher Cancel was pointing and Lyles threw it away allowing the runner to score. It was his only mistake all night and it cost him the win. In the 9th inning the Cubs brought Marmol in to pitch. Marmol has owned the Astros for the most part until that night when the Astros exploded for 6 runs and won the game.
Lyles is going to be a solid starter for this team, too bad when Wandy comes off the DL they will probably send Lyles back to the Minors.
Last night was another good offensive night with Bud Norris getting back to his winning ways and Melancon getting his fifth save of the season, second straight.
Momentum is building for the Astros but they have to keep playing this way.
