The “Big Farewell”…Shaq say’s good bye
Posted By Warren Shaw On Jun 3 2011 @ 11:54 pm In NBA | No Comments
With index cards in hand and great comedic timing, Shaquille O’neal addressed the media for the last time as a player. While he did not retire at the top of his game he did retire when it was time. What we saw in his retirement speech was a man who was satisfied with his 19 year career.
He was not bitter or saddened. Shaq was joyful, funny, and content.
Quite frankly he was marvelous.
Shaq is a man who has accomplished just about everything any player could ever dream of. He has also accomplished just about everything any man could ever dream of:
The list goes on and is seemingly endless. O’neal has a masters degree and is also working on his PHD which he revealed in the press conference. Shaq is multi-talented and at the end of the day a true professional in just about everything he does, even when he is making jokes.
Through it all he was and continues to be a media darling.
What we saw today was historic and refreshing but it will not be the last we see of the newly named “Big AARP”. O’neal will certainly have a job on somebody’s television station next season. Move over Charles Barkley as the Big “insert catchy media nickname here” is soon to be town.
NBA coverage couldn’t be in better hands.
