Time for Some Home Cookin’ !

The Yankees game back from that gauntlet of a West Coast Trip going 6-3. The games they lost were to opposing pitchers Michael Pineda, Felix Hernandez and Jered Weaver. New York had the lead in each of those ballgames and lost the first 2 games of the this trip. I will take 6 and 3 in a heartbeat. The Yanks are 33-24, good enough for first place in the A.L. East by 1 game. Hard to complain about that especially with all the inconistencies this club has shown.
Here is the bugaboo. The Yankees need to start playing better at home. They are just 17-13 in the Bronx as they begin a tough 9 game homestand with the 2nd place Red Sox coming to town for a 3 game set. If they don’t play better at home starting right now Joe Girardi’s team will be sitting at home this October.
Why does their need to be a sense of urgency to play better at home? In August and September the Yankees play just 21 total homegames. It is tough to win a division or get a playoff spot when you are the mighty Yankees with every team giving you their best effort night- in- and- night- out in defending their home turf.
The 2009 World Champs went 57-24 in the Bronx. Last year’s Wild Card winners went 52-29. The Yankees (17-13) are on pace to go just 45-36 at Yankee Stadium. That is totally unacceptable and probably not good enough to make the playoffs.
It is time for these guys to play to their complete abilities and start crushing teams at home. Every Yankee regular needs to play to the back of his baseball card and get it done. No more slumps. No more excuses when getting beat by scrubs like Carlos Villanueva. No more inconsistency. If it doesn’t stop, certainly no 28th championship.
