Clippers, Sixers Discussing Kaman-Iguodala Trade?

According to a report from ESPN, the Clippers and 76ers are discussing a potential trade that would land center Chris Kaman in Philadelphia and Andre Iguodala on the west coast.

The Clippers, as I’ve mentioned time and time again in this very space, haven’t been shy about their desire to find themselves a top-tier small forward. Iguodala would certainly fit the bill. The trade would also fill a major hole in the middle for the Sixers, who started the perimeter-oriented Spencer Hawes for most of last season.

Iguodala has averaged nearly 16 points per game during his six-year NBA career, but most view the athletic forward primarily as a standout defensive stopper. He’s one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, and it showed when he gave LeBron James problems during Philly’s first-round playoff series with the Heat.

Los Angeles will also love to have whatever offensive punch he can bring them. The collective performances of Ryan Gomes and Al-Farouq Aminu left much to be desired.

Iggy’s athleticism will also fit in quite well. If you’re running a starting lineup out there that includes Iguodala, Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan, you’re talking about one of the most athletic units the league has to offer.

The Clippers would absolutely love to acquire a player of Iguodala’s caliber, as they struggled mightily at times in terms of stopping anybody on the defensive end throughout most of last season.

Dealing Kaman, who has one year remaining on his contract, would also likely mean that the Clippers are confident that they’ll be able to re-sign DeAndre Jordan, who will be a restricted free agent when ever the free agency period commences.

Jordan emerged last season as a guy with the potential to make a major defensive impact in the middle. He’s still just 22 years old, so clearly L.A. thinks they have something here.

Stay tuned for more as the situation develops.
