Braves try to get a win versus the Mets

Right now, it’s the top of the seventh, and the Braves and Mets are tied at 6. Atlanta lost the first two games of this series and are trying for a win before the Texas Rangers show up for an interleague matchup in the Ted. I was at the game on Tuesday, and I’ll like to thank WXIA’s sports Fred Kalil for sponsoring me at the game. Long story short, I was high bid at an auction for the privilege. I got down on the field during the Mets batting practice, helped Fred do a live shot with Brooks Conrad, got an autographed ball from Jonny Ventners (who has his scoreless streak on the line), got an advanced edition of the Jason Heyward bobblehead which was supposed to be released on Wednesday, and chased a styrofoam block down the first base line. Fred asked if I wanted to see anything else. Me being me, I said the press box. Got in there and loked around, and it’ll probably be the only way I’ll ever get in there. Then I went down to my seat behind home plate (but toward the back of the concourse) and sat next to actor Stephen Collins (No Ordinary Family, Seventh Heaven). He wanted to see the Mets so we talked about that and the different strategies. Listen to me, I sit next to Stephen Collins, am an extra in a scene with Jennifer Love Hewitt, and suddenly I’m in the Hollywood know. If that’s the case, then why am I sitting at home, alone, on a Thursday night watching the game? Oh, well.
The bases are filled with one out, putting Ventners’ streak in serious jeopardy. Anyway, when I saw the lineup for the Braves on Tuesday, there were a lot of names I didn’t know. Part of it has been my isolation with everything else on my plate, and a lot of it is the injuries that have been plaguing the team. No Heyward, no Prado. A WP by Ventners strikes out the batter but scores the run, and the Mets have the lead. The Braves do have problems with the Mets, but luckily, not the rest of the division. They’re comfortably in second, but over five games behind the Phils. They’re tied with the Cards for the wildcard. If these injuries can get better (and reports say Heyward is close), they might be able to get some separation from St. Louis and Arizona. I can’t believe we’re almost halfway through the season. That means football is really close! College, anyway.
I’m going to watch the rest of this game before turning in. Also, Vanderbilt is in the College World Series for the first time, and will play UNC on Saturday at 2p. Like all Commodore alumni and fans, I don’t want a two-and-out. Give us a win, and I’ll be happy.
