Rockies Getting into the Swing of Things
Posted By Steve Folsom On Jun 17 2011 @ 3:15 pm In Colorado Rockies | No Comments
Winners of 5 of their last 8 games, Colorado is starting to show some signs of life at the plate. With 47 runs scored in 7 of those 8 games, it seems the Rockies are gaining more confidence in the batter’s box. Contrast those 47 runs to the 16 runs the Rockies scored in the 9 games previous to this current 8 game stretch, and an improving offense looks to be a good sign for Colorado to jump back into the NL West race.
Colorado’s two biggest offensive stars, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, have also been hitting better the past 8 games and the entire month of June. Tulowitzki’s batting average has climbed to .274 this season because he is hitting .364 in June. Gonzalez has been on fire the past week and has his average up to .277 for the season. Manager Jim Tracy has moved Gonzalez to the lead-off spot to get him back to last year’s form and it seems to be working.
With the Rockies starting rotation being so unpredictable, the offense needs to step up and contribute. Baseball fans throughout the country are used to seeing big offensive numbers from Rockies hitters. If the Rockies are going to contend in the NL West with the surprising Arizona Diamondbacks and the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, they’ll need to keep up their current streak of success at the plate.
