LAABTDATT. LAA Beating the Dodgers all the time.

The Angels aren’t that good of team. The Dodgers are down right bad. I never thought I would say that, but it is true. The Dodgers are making the Halos out to be the Yankees of yesteryear.
Both teams are deficient in many areas, but the Angels have a much better nucleus than their boys up the freeway. Matt Kemp is the best player on either team, but he is only one guy. Andre Ethier isn’t so bad either, but every other Dodger should be bench players or in the minors.
The Angels have Jeff Mathis. Mathis did something I have never seen on Friday. As Tony Gwynn attempted to steal 2nd in the 6th inning, Mathis fires a bullet—–right to first baseman Mark Trumbo. No, he didn’t try to throw Gwynn out at 2nd, he wanted to play catch with Trumbo. The look on Mike Scioscia’s face was priceless. Mathis forte is defense, if he can’t play that, what good is he? He is hitting .188, so we know offense is out of the question.
It’s still weird to see Scioscia in Angels gear. The Dodgers brass was right, Scioscia won’t be a good big league manager. Thank you Dodgers, for being stupid.
Through 4 games the Halos have cracked 4 home runs. And I thought the Angels were the only team that didn’t scout other teams. The home run that Vernon Wells hit on Saturday was nearly hit out of the stadium. It went in to the bullpen, but could have gone in to the parking lot. Pretty much everyone not named Abreu and Mathis is having a great series against the boys in blue. That includes Russell Branyan, who had a double on Saturday. Here’s how you pitch Branyan, throw the ball down the middle and watch him swing at air.
Is Scioscia sending a message on how he feels about his bench, or what? Pitcher Dan Haren batted in the 7th inning, than got taken out before he could throw a pitch in the bottom of the inning. You don’t have to tell me the Halos bench is less than stellar.
I hate the book. Don Mattingly obviously doesn’t. Friday night, he wouldn’t pitch to Branyan. Replacing a righty with a lefty, then watching the Halos replace a lefty (Branyan) with a righty (Wilson) is just over-managing. It’s not like they are Mantle and Maris. Both Branyan and Wilson stink. If your pitchers can’t get those guys out, then maybe they should catch a flight to Albuquerque. Oops, they can’t pitch to Branyan–sorry, I forgot.
Tyler Chatwood will still hit some bumps in the road, but he looks like the real deal. He pitched a whale of a game, allowing the Dodgers just 1 run. Although he did get help from Howard Kendrick, who went up the ladder to halt a Dodger rally in the 5th inning. His leaping catch turned in to a inning ending double play.
Kendrick also pulled off a nice defensive play in left field on Friday, diving to rob Ethier of a hit. Kendrick has played all of 13 games in the outfield. Add in his .304 batting average, and I would say he has been the offensive MVP of the Halos so far.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Peter Bourjos makes more contact as his career progresses. 70+ strike outs for the guy who should be your leadoff man isn’t going to cut it.
The way to beat the Dodgers appears to be not pitching to Kemp or Ethier. Halos caught a break when over stimulated umpire Chris Conroy tossed Kemp early in the game. I subscribe to the MLB on the internet. One of their commercials is how to become an umpire. Maybe they can teach patience. Kemp appeared to say nothing to Conroy, but got tossed nonetheless. Emotions run high in sports, relax Conroy.
The Angels won game 1, 8-3, and game 2, 6-1. They go for the sweep tomorrow.
The series finale should be a doozy as Jered Weaver goes against Clayton Kershaw. It has the makings of a great pitchers duel.
Angels are at .500, can they go over tomorrow?
