Arenas Tweets his Take

Free of the restraints of the NBA league office and the watchful eye of David Stern, Gilbert Arenas is having a blast on Twitter [1].

Arenas has given his take on everything from the lockout, planking [2] with the Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard, and even his role with the team this past season.

In some recent tweets Arenas admitted that he felt misused and subjected to unnecessary pressure by Stan Van Gundy to play perfect basketball. Here is synopsis of some his tweets this past weekend:

I like the ppl who use stats to argue..I played with 100 percent green light for entire career..last year I had 0 percent freedom. Now u have a scorer who is scared to shot the ball becuz if he miss he starts lookin over his shoulder. No player can play like that. The 3 best games I had was when I knew I couldn’t get pulled..so missed shots and mistakes wasn’t on my mind…just getting buckets.

Arenas who is owed just over 62 million over the next three years goes on to admit to being overpaid.

Yes as of now i am [overpaid] but i work hard everyday to try to prove it i just didnt get a fair shot this year but hoping for one next year

Ironically Dwight Howard made a similar comment last month regarding Arenas. Orlando is desperate to please their superstar and while Howard is not the general manager, he clearly feels a need to be more involved in personnel decisions.

While both Arenas and Howard pine for Agent 0 to get more playing time, Orlando would much rather find a way to get the salary of Arenas off their payroll.

What should also be of concern to the Magic brass is Howard’s growing affinity towards Arenas. Something about their new found fondness is a little bit scary and unnerving. Given the past of Arenas, the team and itsĀ  fans should be concerned about his relationship with Howard.

Dwight is way too good to be a “follower” of Arenas is any format.

In the meantime Arenas claims to be working hard in preparation for next season, whenever that begins. He can still be very valuable to Orlando and with the amount of money he is owed it would be surprising to see him used in the same frugal manor as he was last season.
