A three-peat starts this week’s What It Means.
1) What can you say about Steve Stricker. He’s won three straight John Deere Classics, he loses a four shot lead, then gets it back to a tie, hits a sensational shot out of a fairway bunker to the back fringe and drains the putt for the victory on the final hole. That guy has guts, has heart, and knows how to finish.
Watch out for him this week at the British Open. He will contend in more majors, as I said last month after he won Memorial, and as today proves, he knows how to rebound after low points in his round.
2) I really like the way Charles Howell III is playing. He’s got the type of game that could work in a British Open, and I’d watch out for him to contend this week.
Plus he’s hungry for a victory anytime — he hasn’t won in several years and a victory would sure up his PGA Tour card through 2013.
3) I have no idea what Tiger Woods’ “special announcement” is tomorrow (Monday) at 11am ET on Golf Channel, but I think it will be something positive.
“Special announcement” has more of a charity, sponsorship, TV show feel to it, not a surgery/out for the season/retirement/admitting steroids use ring like some on Twitter have speculated tonight.
