First off, let me say that it’s just a bit strange to look at the standings and see the Pirates with a better than .500 record. Then I take a closer look and see the Royals mired in the cellar, (only 12 games out, but still) and take relief that things haven’t completely been upended and that dogs and cats are not living together, in harmony.
With that, out of the way, on to the Braves. They took 2 of 3 from Washington this weekend and now begin a week-long road trip with series at Colorado and Cincinnati. Colorado wil be looking for some payback after the four game sweep the Braves dished out a few weeks ago. Altanta won game #10,000 in their storied history with Friday’s win and notched #10,001 in a wild 9-8 win this afternoon. Freddie Freeman won the game in dramatic fashion with his walk-off hit that plated Martin Prado, fresh from his DL stay. Braves are still 3.5 behind the Phils but own a somewhat comfy 5 game over Arizona in the wildcard. I mentioned Colorado. They are ten games out in the West, while the Reds are a somewhat clost 3.5 in the Central, but Cincy has three teams to get around, which makes for a daunting prospect. Should be an interesting week.
Also, I mentioned Dan Uggla’s .243 average this month. It’s a little better now. He’s batting about .340 in the last ten games. And, Derek Lowe’s name has surfaced as trade bait. His record isn’t the best, and he could go a pitching starved contender in exchange for a hot bat. So much for saying there was no movement, but in hindsight, it was true when I wrote it.
