A’s prove it’s still Hammer time.

It had to be one of the ugliest games I have ever watched, or should I say ugliest inning. The umpire crew had a rough series, but Joel Pineiro made it easy for them today. The Righty was all wrong, walking 4 of the first 5 batters, giving up 8 runs, including a grand slam and the Halos were done before their 2nd at bats. A’s win 9-1 and took 3 of the 4 games from the Angels. I know the All-Star break was long, but did Pineiro forget how to pitch? How can a Major League be that bad? Now I know why Mike Scioscia was reading Rich Thompson the riot act Saturday night. He must have known that Pineiro was gonna suck up the joint on Sunday. Facing just 10 batters, while throwing 37 pitches, Pineiro should be rested for his next start. Ok one positive note: Pineiro did manage to get one guy out, and would have had 2 if Mark Trumbo doesn’t commit an error.
I know what you are gonna say. Did I notice how well Michael Kohn, Bobby Cassevah, and Ryan Thompson pitched? Not too tough when your team is down 8-0. Any pressure and those 3 crumble like a straw house in a strong wind. i’ll go out on a limb here and say they won’t be as dominant in their next outing if there are man on base.
Does Hammer throw out the first pitch at every A’s game? I know he used to be a bat boy for Oakland, but is there no other big stars from Oakland. At least MC got to watch his A’s hammer the Angels.
Just a rotten series for Torii Hunter and Howard Kendrick. Kendrick had 1 hit in 4 games, while Hunter is still looking for his first 2nd half hit.
It probable wouldn’t have mattered, but I wonder if the Angels were a little more patient, could they have gotten back in to the game? Combined, the 12 hitters the Angels used looked at an average of 4 pitches per at bat. Secret: When a team knows they are defeated, watch how fast the game moves. The game ran 2:35, and that’s with the A’s 8 run first. Angels just wanted to go home.
So the Angels 8 series win streak is snapped. Now they head home for some easy games against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have given up just 2 runs in the 4 games post All-Star break, and have won 11 straight games. They now lead the Angels by 4 games in the AL West.
Alexei Ogando vs. Tyler Chatwood on Tuesday. Let’s hope some home cookin’ gets the Angels back on track. Being 1 back sounds a lot better than 7 down.
