Team: Boston Bruins
2010-11: 103 points, #3 in Eastern Conference
Returning: Tim Thomas, Tukka Rask
The Bruins’ bread and butter is their goaltending, and they will be entering the 2011-12 season with the same tandem that won them a Stanley Cup.
Returning: Zdeno Chara, Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference, Johnny Boychuk, Adam McQuaid
Arrivals: Joe Corvo
Departures: Tomas Kaberle
I was tempted to give this one a -1, but seeing as how Kaberle underperformed for Boston, I will call it an even swap. The Bruins will either fill the #7 D spot with a prospect (most likely Kampfer) or by signing a veteran UFA.
Returning: David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Chris Kelly, Rich Peverley, Tyler Seguin, Shawn Thornton, Gregory Campbell, Dan Paille, Marc Savard (expected to be on LTIR)
Arrivals: Benoit Pouliot
Departures: Mark Recchi, Michael Ryder
Boston will suffer a bit from the loss of Recchi and Ryder, but they will also gain from the expected improvement of Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand. It is also possible that prospect Jordan Caron makes the team and serves as a replacement for one of the two, depending on how Benoit Pouliot performs at training camp.
OVERALL RATING: -1
2011-12 Prediction: #1-#3 in Eastern Conference
Despite a -1 rating, the Boston Bruins will in all likelihood win the Northeast Division and will therefore contend for one of the top 3 seeds in the conference.
