NO QUESTION, PRIME TIME HIGHLIGHTS THE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

The NFL Lockout had only one casualty.  The Hall of Fame Game.  It is the only game that had to be cancelled due to the labor battle between the owners and players.  The Chicago Bears and the St Louis Rams would have participated, but the game is really secondary to the HOF induction that takes place on the same weekend.

This year’s class was one to remember.  In a class that included Richard Dent and Marshall Faulk, the two inductees that figured to give memorable speeches were Shannon Sharpe and Deion Sanders.  Neither would dissappoint.  While Sharpe’s speech was moving, Sanders’ was exceptional.

The man who was often criticized for being too flashy, let the world see the side of “Neon Deion” that is usually reserved for his family and close friends.  He thanked many, many, people, but the most touching stories came when he talked about his mother, Constance Knight.  Sanders talked about a time when he was ashamed of his mother and how that time was the genesis for the “Prime Time” persona that come to form the polarizing figure that was indeed flashy, but more importantly, the best cornerback the NFL has ever seen.  I don’t know that Deion is the best football player I’ve ever seen, but he is the fastest I’ve ever seen.  If you watch film, he ran down and ran away from some guys that were big-time fast.  One play that stays etched in my mind forever was Deion, then with the Atlanta Falcons, running down Jerry Rice from across the field.  If you’ve never seen it, look it up online.

So congradulations and thank you Deion.  For being one of the greatest athletes ever, both on and off the field.  During his playing career, he was both loved and loathed.  Tying the bandana on his bust probabbly tickled both sides, bu
