So we didn’t see much of the first stringers, they only played one series, but the first offensive drive from the Birds put a smile on all of the Eagles fans faces.
Michael Vick carried the wave of momentum from last season into that drive by going 4/6 for 74 yards. He finished the possession by throwing a three-yard touchdown pass to Brent Celek. The drive was also highlighted by a well thrown 20-yard strike to Jason Avant on the first play of the game and a 41-yard jump ball completion to Riley Cooper.
The defensive line play was outstanding; the first , second, third and fourth units all contributed. Everybody was consistently in Baltimore’s backfield. Darryl Tapp had a great game exploded off each snap. He had two sacks, and the entire line combined for six sacks. Jim Washburn’s influence on the defensive front has shown thus far.
Earlier on in the week the Eagles made an underrated signing by snatching right tackle Ryan Harris from Denver. He excelled in Mike Shannahan’s zone blocking scheme due to his quickness, but struggled last year when the Broncos added a new offensive line coach who wanted more beef up front. Howard Mudd, the Eagles offensive line coach, likes a quicker and athletic line. Harris fits right in.
The safety play was solid. Newly acquired Jarrad Page and rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett each had an interception.
I was really interested to watch the starting linebacking core, but didn’t see enough to fully evaluate the trio of Fokou, Matthews and Chaney.
The offensive line didn’t particularly run block well, but Ronnie Brown and Dion Lewis made tacklers miss. Don’t let their numbers full you (Brown 9 car 22 yds Lewis 10 car 26 yds)
All in all, the Eagles defense looked great en route to a 13-6 win over Baltimore.

I currently work for the Sports Network. It's the best job ever! I am a 2010 graduate of Temple University where I majored in broadcast journalism, I LOVE SPORTS! That's why I am here. I have a vast knowledge and want to share my athletic intelligence with the world. Some people like to spend their time shooting down aliens in Halo; I like to spend my time watching sports, current and old. It's my passion! I got asked one time how I can watch a game over again when I already know the outcome. 5 minutes later, he's watching Happy Gilmore reciting all of the lines from the movie. Hypocrite! As for my favorite sports teams, I've been a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan. My favorite athlete is Allen Iverson. He didn't like practice that much, but when it came to gametime, no one let it all out on the floor like Iverson. He is absolutely beloved in the city of Brotherly Love. For college athletics, obviously I pay close attention to Temple. (Yes, football too) Even before I stepped foot on Temple's campus for the 1st time in 2005, I was a fan. Oh the good old days of John Chaney! Some other tidbits about myself, I love cheesesteaks, I hydrate myself with Welch's Grape Juice and Snapple. I love the HBO show Entourage. Also, when is Kenny Powers making his much anticipated return in Eastbound and Down!
