What a finish at the PGA — which starts this week’s What It Means:
1) What a sensational job by Keegan Bradley. He doubles the 15th after chipping it in the water, falls five shots behind Jason Dufner, and then rallies. He birdies 16 and 17 in regulation, gets into a playoff with Dufner, and then birdies the 16th hole in the playoff to eventually win the PGA Championship by one. Unbelievable.
And the birdie on 17 in regulation was a bomb too — about 35 feet. His resolve was unbelieveable, bouncing back from a horrible mistake and a FIVE shot deficit with three to play to win. Thrilling stuff.
2) Poor Jason Dufner. He plays wonderful all week to get a five shot lead with four to play, then makes a big mistake by hitting it into the water on 15, then bogeys 16 and 17, with the latter being via three-putt. And once he missed the make-able birdie at 16 in the playoff, I knew he was done.
He’s got all the talent in the world, and you hope he can bounce back from this. But it may take time.
3) Tiger Woods is going to get two months off to fine-tune his game. That’s great. The problem is Tiger needs competitive REPS….and he may have only four rounds worth of reps before the President’s Cup. That might not be enough.
