Peyton Hillis got the best of Michael Vick in the Madden video game cover contest, but Vick and his Eagles got the best of Hillis and his Browns in just another rather meaningless preseason game.
Although the Eagles first team got the better of the Browns first team (17-0 at halftime) there were some positives and negatives to take away from this one. Let’s start with the good shall we…
I loved the way the defense played, although it was against the hapless Browns.
The defensive line consistently got pressure with their front four and the linebackers were great in coverage. Phillip Hunt, Derek Landri, Mike Patterson, and Trent Cole each recorded a sack.
Jamar Chaney made numerous plays. The Brown thought they had a mismatch when they isolated Peyton Hillis on Chaney. Hillis ran a go-route into the endzone but Chaney made a play on the ball and batted it away. Matthews played more instinctively and also made some nice plays in coverage. He had five tackles.
The running backs looked great. LeSean McCoy showed his elusiveness in the open field, Ronnie Brown ran with power and Dion Lewis made tacklers miss.
For the second consecutive week, the Eagles special teams blocked a field goal.
The offensive line is a big concern, especially the right side. Right guard Danny Watkins and right tackle King Dunlap looked lost. Watkins’ teammate at Baylor Phil Taylor manhandled Watkins and center Jason Kelce all night. Like most of last season, Brent Celek stayed on the line to help out the right tackle. Winston Justice and Ryan Harris did not play due to injury.
Michael Vick took a lot of hits last night. There’s a reason why LeSean McCoy had seven of Vick’s 10 completions. The line didn’t give Vick any time to throw. DeSean Jackson needs time to get down the field.
We must remember that Watkins and Kelce need time. There’s still plenty for them to digest.
Overall it was a nice bounce back performance after a clunker last week against Pittsburgh.

I currently work for the Sports Network. It's the best job ever! I am a 2010 graduate of Temple University where I majored in broadcast journalism, I LOVE SPORTS! That's why I am here. I have a vast knowledge and want to share my athletic intelligence with the world. Some people like to spend their time shooting down aliens in Halo; I like to spend my time watching sports, current and old. It's my passion! I got asked one time how I can watch a game over again when I already know the outcome. 5 minutes later, he's watching Happy Gilmore reciting all of the lines from the movie. Hypocrite! As for my favorite sports teams, I've been a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan. My favorite athlete is Allen Iverson. He didn't like practice that much, but when it came to gametime, no one let it all out on the floor like Iverson. He is absolutely beloved in the city of Brotherly Love. For college athletics, obviously I pay close attention to Temple. (Yes, football too) Even before I stepped foot on Temple's campus for the 1st time in 2005, I was a fan. Oh the good old days of John Chaney! Some other tidbits about myself, I love cheesesteaks, I hydrate myself with Welch's Grape Juice and Snapple. I love the HBO show Entourage. Also, when is Kenny Powers making his much anticipated return in Eastbound and Down!
