Fernando Rodney sucks

That’s the best title I could think of. I did consider a couple others:
The Angels season goes Plouffe
The Twins spank the Angels, and Tyler too
You get the drift, I was stuck, so I just went with the first thing that came to my mind after watching the Angels, and looking over the box score.
Rodney came in to Friday’s game with the Angels trailing 8-4. 5 batters later, Rodney left the game, with the Angels down 12-4. 2 hits and 3 walks allowed for the one guy who will be a big reason why, if the Angels don’t make the postseason.
His pitching lines don’t tell the entire story, as they actually seem to be rather good. Look at little closer and you will find that if he doesn’t give up runs, he gives up hits that adds runs to other pitchers. He’ll also come in and give up a hit, or a walk, that usually puts the Angels in trouble.
Rodney probably wouldn’t have pitched if Jered Weaver didn’t attend the funeral of his grandfather. Weaver has it right, family should always come before baseball. However, the Angels needed someone to start, so they recalled Tyler Chatwood. Chatwood pitched pretty well up until August, when things went south for the rookie. His trip to Salt Lake didn’t correct what ails him. The Minnesota Twins just added to his agony, piling on 6 runs in less than 4 innings. He is a big part of the Angels future, so I hope the problems he is going through now won’t affect him in the future.
The Angels bullpen couldn’t hold the Twins down either. Jose Mota did say something that scared the bejesus out of me. He said that the Angels will get bullpen help from Salt Lake. Really?? If there is someone that good, wouldn’t they be with the Angels now? I know he was referring to Michael Kohn, who has stunk in 2 previous times with the big club. Can’t wait to see him get the ball again.
Twins score a season high in runs and beat the Angels 13-5.
Jered Weaver came back to pitch on Saturday, and didn’t look like the guy we have come to know, and love. I wonder if that start he made on 3 day’s rest has affected him more than we now. He has allowed 13 earned runs in his last 11 innings of work. That is an ERA of 10.63.
He was bailed out by an Angels offense that woke up. Mark Trumbo hit his first career grand slam. Vernon Wells hit his 19th, and Peter Bourjos hit his 10th as the Angels took game 2, 10-6.
I will say it again, Mike Trout has to play every day. Another 3 hits for the overmatched rookie–haha. When Trout plays, either Bobby Abreu or Vernon Wells has to sit. Trout makes things happen at the bottom of the lineup most nights.
He has been playing well of late, but Wells has 52 RBI. Light hitting shortstop Erick Aybar has 53. left field is a key RBI position. Shortstop is not.
Really like the way Bobby Cassevah has been pitching. Another couple solid innings for one of the Angels few consistent relievers. Scott Downs has been next to automatic this year.
The Angels are back to within 3.5 games of the Rangers, who have to be wondering what it’s gong to take to knock off the pesky Angels.
The Angels have to be the most resilient teams in baseball and Mike Scioscia should get consideration for manager of the year.
Angels will go for the rubber game tomorrow. Joel Pineiro vs. Kevin Slowey. My blood pressure will rise watching Pineiro walk the high wire act like he always does.
