The never say die Angels live another day. They remain 3.5 games back of Texas in the competitive AL West.
A heart felt thank’s goes out to Minnesota 2nd baseman Trevor Plouffe, who forgot how many outs there were in the 3rd inning of today’s game. Instead of a 6-4-3 double play, Howard Kendrick picked up the eventual game winning RBI. Plouffe must have felt like he was on an island all by himself. I’m not saying it’s the reason, but when teams are out of the playoff race, I’m sure it can be hard to concentrate.
The game ball goes to Joel Pineiro, who pitched his best game since I don’t when. Actually, his last good start came back on July 4th against Detroit. I won’t make an independence day pun, promise.
Pineiro allowed only 1 run in 7 innings, a home run by Joe Mauer. However, Mauer does own Pineiro, hitting better than .600 against him. Other than that, he allowed 4 more harmless singles to improve his record to 6-6.
Bobby Abreu finally got a pitch he could drive, and he drove it over the wall for his 7th home run of the year. He needs to hit 8 more between now and September 30th to match his career low of 15, set back in 2009. He did hit 3 for the Astros back in 1997, but he only played in 59 games.
Erick Aybar now has a 14 game hitting steak. Aybar has had an up and down season. He had a 13 game streak early in the season, then he went 3-50 from July 31st ’till August 14th. He’s back to streaking again, which is good for the Halos.
Never thought I’d see it happen, but I saw Mike Trout bounce in to a double play. Twins had to be quick, but they still got him on the back end.
Once Jordan Walden started throwing fastballs, it’s amazing how quick the 9th inning went. Someone has to get in his head, and tell him that a 4-1 lead means you need to challenge the hitters. Throwing breaking balls, and nibbling at the plate, has proven to not get the job done.
Angels get the Mariners for the next 3 days. Dan Haren and Anthony Vasquez go tomorrow. The Rangers have to face James Shields in Tampa. Sounds like a perfect time for the Angels to pick up a game on Rangers.

O'kay I'll talk about myself a little. I've been working in the television/radio industry for over 21 years. I started at 2 so I am just a tad over 21 (That is a joke). My career has taken me around and and even out of the United States. Right now I call Vegas home, but I just never know where life will take me next. Until 2002 my irrational love for the California/Anaheim/LAA had taken me down some very dark roads, but with Arte Moreno in charge I finally saw the a light at the end of the road. I really love most every sports and having as much fun as possible.
