After a fairly routine 41-7 win over Indiana State, the Nittany Lions get to the first “meat” of the season. The Crimson Tide rolls into Happy Valley on Saturday with high hopes. They’re beatable, but PSU needs to pull a few things together.
While the offense cruised against the Sycamores, you can bet that Alabama’s D is a million times better. The line gave up three sacks, but Silas Redd rushed for 100+ yards and two TDs. They won’t have much margin for error against the Crimson Tide so they need to plug any holes before Saturday.
Much to my dismay, the Paternos (Joe and Jay) are still claiming that a two-QB “system” is helpful. RUBBISH! Either McGloin or Bolden needs to know he’s the guy. The team needs to know, too. I don’t really care which one they pick as long as they choose one.
On the plus side, special teams shined against Indiana State. It’s been a while since that was the case at PSU. Chaz Powell returned a kickoff 95 yards for a TD, which is always nice to see.
The defense came up with two sacks and two INTs, but again, they’ll be facing a completely different opponent in Alabama.
Things looked good against Indiana State, as was expected, but Saturday will give a much better assessment of how good Penn State will be.
