Fantasy Week 1 Waivers

Well fantasy owners, it’s almost time for some football again and I’ll bet your chomping at the bit for fantasy glory, which also means your surfing the waivers for this season’s next Michael Vick, Brandon Lloyd, or Peyton Hillis. If so, you’re likely increasing your chances of winning this season. Building a good core on your fantasy roster is essential in the draft, but fantasy leagues are won on the wires.

After the first 8-9 rounds of fantasy drafts you, like most managers you took players that will be hit or miss in the league, leaving them as prime candidates to be replaced on your roster. Here are some players floating around on waivers to consider.

Lance Kendricks – I have been high on Kendricks for weeks now and in the Rams dink and dunk, but altogether pass happy, offense and Kendricks has been the go to guy at receiver for Sam Bradford. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has used the 6 foot 3 tight end much like a wide out and he could be poised for a great rookie campaign. He’s owned in 33% of leagues and climbing.

Delone Carter – The Colts will be without Peyton Manning for at least game 1 and probably more. So the Colt’s will naturally have to lean a bit more on the run game. Joseph Addai is brittle and the epitome of injury. When he goes down a big back like Carter, who has over taken Donald Brown for the number 2 spot, will probably see the bulk of the carries. He’s a bigger back and is better suited to handle more hits and a larger workload than Addai and Brown. Owned in 21% of leagues.

Jason Snelling – I like Snelling as a handcuff for Turner. We’ve seen what Snelling is capable of as a stater, and Turner had groin surgery after playing through injury last season. Snelling is better suited for the passing offense that the Falcons want to run and if Turner were to go down would be a fantasy gold mine. Owned in 16% of leagues.

Denarius Moore – It’s not plausible that Darrius Heyward-Bey will keep his starting jobat wide receiver, his starting seems like a last ditch effort to convince Al Davis that he doesn’t have it. Moore is much more talented and, along with Jacoby Ford, will likely be a starter for the Raiders midway through the season. Owned 14% of leagues.

Derrick Ward – Arian Foster is still iffy to start week 1 against the Colts, saying “I don’t know” when asked if he’d be ready for the game. In the event that he is ruled out, Ward is listed as the number 2 back, and despite the great preseason by Ben Tate, he is more acclimated into the Texan’s offense. More importantly, he is better blocker and pass catcher than Tate. The Texans will not want to have Tate in on obvious run situations only to be stuffed or leave Matt Schaub exposed if Tate misses a blitz pick up on a passing down. As good as Tate has looked, Ward is looking like the better option if Foster is out, though the 2 may split time. Owned in 6% of leagues.

Jared Cook – He came on late last season and could look to be a reliable threat in the pass game. He has drawn comparison to Jermichael Finley and is highly regarded by starting QB Matt Hasselbeck. He is owned in 50% of leagues.
