The pre-season is finally over and now it is time to take care of business as the NFL heads into week-1 of this years NFL season which I won’t say was almost not to be.
The now led by Jason Garrett Dallas Cowboys can only look up, way up when it comes to bettering last years dismal record and to look up to what people expect is going to be a positive season in Cowboy Nation.
It is going to be a tough start in week-1 as the Cowboys head to New Jersey to play the Jets especially when everyone in New York is looking for the Jets to improve on what they accomplished last season.
Ok, now back to the Cowboys. I am optimistic that the Cowboys can and will bring a quality football team to this season and I have injury news which does not help as the next phrase was the Cowboys have to stay healthy and already in week-1 we have injuries. Both starting corner-backs, 2009 pro-bowl CB’s Mike Jenkins (knee) and Terrence Newman (groin) look to not be playing this Sunday. This leaves Orlando ‘I think I can start in the NFL’ Scandrick and Alan Bell to start in the secondary which only means watch out for Jets to try to put the ball down-field. This will be interesting with the return of Plexico Burress to the NFL in a Jets uniform. Rookie right tackle Tyron Smith is also out for the Cowboys which might mean a lot of scampering around for Dallas quarterback Tony Romo as Romo plays hot potato on the Dallas back field.
Sunday will also see Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan up against his twin brother, Jets head coach Rex Ryan so that should be interesting in a battle of the Ryan brains. Look for Dad Buddy Ryan to be watching in some capacity while he battles health issues.
How will Romo fair this year coming off his injury riddled last season?, can Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant be on the same page?, will WR Miles Austin put up pro-bowl numbers like he did last season?. All these questions we can start to answer as my buddy Jimmy Buffet says ‘Come Monday’ for all you parrot-heads out there.
The key is staying healthy and playing as a team, no one player is going to win ball-games in the NFL, win as a team, lose as a team, hit, hit hard, gang tackle and take it out on the opponent, enough said…..welcome back Cowboy Nation…. lets hope for a good Dallas Cowboy season.
I should of put this at the top as this could very well mean more than any football game but we all should know that Sunday marks the 10th and I don’t want to say anniversary but since 9-11 happened and in New York and this football game is going to be the one game played closest to ‘ground zero’ so I know chills will be going up my spine and I know the NFL will recognize 9-11 in true professional NFL fashion but lets not forget the hero’s of 9-11 and all have our own moment of silence. To my knowledge every fan entering the game will be given a US flag to show off true American patriotism and this coming from a Canadian who shows nothing but respect for our neighbours to the south.
Go Cowboys……Sunday nighter folks..sit back and enjoy….see ya’all soon
come back often, comments, questions, concerns.
