After another long night because of a late fantasy draft (worst idea ever), I wake up early this morning re-energized for some great football tonight! I try to calm myself down and go back to sleep (I could definitely use it), but I immediately turn on ESPN and get my computer. There is one thing on my mind, and nothing else matters. Man….I really love this time of year. Did anyone see ESPN First Take this morning??? Skip Bayless was ripping on Aaron Rodgers using the championship belt. Personally, I think the belt is hilarious. Skip Bayless is crazy… Anyways, starting today, I will post a “Sleeper of the day” every Tuesday and Thursday and “What’s grinding your gears” on Friday where fantasy football owners get to sound off. But because this is such a special week, there will be a special section, “Rituals before football Sunday”. Even though the NFL Kickoff is tonight, Sunday is really what I am looking forward to. But anyways, here goes nothing.
Sleeper of the Day: Davone Bess-WR MIA
This guy gets absolutely no love from fantasy owners. In PPR leagues, Bess is a machine. Here are his numbers over his first 3 years:
2008- 54 rec/554 yards/1 TD/75 Targets
2009- 76 rec/758 yards/2 TDs/113 Targets
2010- 80 rec/817 yards/6 TDs/126 Targets
Bess has gotten progressively better, and it is evident that Henne feels comfortable throwing him the ball. He has been one of the most targeted players over the past two seasons and he keeps improving. On top of this, he has Brandon Marshall playing opposite of him and the Dolphins hired Brian Daboll as their new offesnive coordinator. The OC replaces Dan Henning and has implemented more passing plays into their scheme. Daboll feels Henne is ready and I agree that Henne could become somewhat relevant in fantasy this year.
Rituals Before Football Sunday
There are so many things to do for football Sunday, and so little time (I guess its easier than being on the west coast). The first NFL Sunday is like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years combined…true bliss. This year is particularly special due to the lockout. This off season just shows us how much we should appreciate these sports/athletes. Anyways, here are my 2 for today:
1. Get the pump up music on to get the blood flowing. A classic for me is Archie Eversole’s “We Ready”.
2. Stare at my computer for about an hour deciding my lineup and if there are any last second injuries.
That’s all for now guys. Thanks for reading.
Oh yea, I am taking the Packers at -4.5. It’s a close spread and will be a close game, I just cannot imagine the Superbowl Champs losing their first game at Lambeau. My Fantasy Pick tonight is Jermichael Finley.
