no excuses for the 0-1 Dallas Cowboys this week…

no excuses his week for the 0-1 Dallas Cowboys as they head into San Francisco to play the 1-0 49′ers.  I couldn’t think of a better headline as clearly last weeks loss to the New York Jets was Dallas giving the Jets the win on a silver platter.

This week-2 of the season we focus on the 49′ers and what the Cowboys have to do to come out victorious against a young 49′er squad.

The no excuses comment comes from everyone lashing out at Dallas quarterback Tony Romo who lately has more enemies than allies.  I will be the first to admit the numbers are clear that Romo has not brought Dallas to any element of the promised land and from that dreadful game in Seattle to last weeks game against the Jets, all Dallas has done is lost football games under the helm of Romo at QB.  We’ll they win games but big deal if you can’t win the important games, sometimes I say why not just go 4-12 and get a good draft pick than just tease Cowboy Nation.  O.K, we’ll everyone can sit here and be an armchair QB and say Romo is not the answer, what do they think the answer is?, certainly Jon Kitna is not the answer and 3rd string QB Stephen McGee maybe but not anytime soon and don’t expect to see McGee starting any games this season.  With that being said Dallas is committed to Romo and will live or die with him at the helm of the Cowboy offense, no ifs, ands or butts, any Cowboy fan knows that.  We can only hope Romo can play a full 60 minute football game and make smart football decisions out there when he is on the field.

The Cowboys played well enough to win that game against the New York Jets, anyone who watched it will say that Dallas gave the game to the Jets as noted above on that silver platter.  Dallas played a good game on defense and will look to do that again this week in San Fran.   The Dallas ‘D’ is led by DeMarcus Ware who will again be swarming San Fran’s offense and creating havoc for them.  I was also impressed with Shaun Lee who had an INT against the Jets and looked quick and agile on his feet so hopefully that trend will continue on this week.  Dallas will have to be careful with their secondary which is still a little banged up but look for some starters to get back and hopefully bat some balls down and not allow San Fran’s passing game to succeed.

As always we will look for Romo and company (Witten, Bryant, Austin, Jones, Choice) to hold onto the ball, create some points and make use of all offensive plays and put some points on the scoreboard.  If the offense plays as well as they did last week and Romo throws the ball with the zip he had last week than the offense should and can, will be successful.

Here comes the wammy, ‘special teams’, Dallas must contain San Fran’s Ted Ginn who ran back a punt and kick off return against Seattle last week.  That in fact may very well be the turning point in this game.

The Cowboys will win, won’t be easy but should be exciting but this blogger has the Cowboys leaving San Fran 1-1.

as always comment, questions, concerns…
