The Chiefs Look to Redeem Themselves – Week 2 Preview

After a tough loss like last week all you can do is move on. It’s a long season and it was just one game, but their heads better be in it because the Detroit Lions are looking good right now. The Chiefs are going to be faced with a tough challenge against the confident Lions. They’re coming off a huge victory against Tampa Bay and are carrying a ton of momentum into this week’s game.
Kansas City took a big blow when Eric Berry was injured for the season after playing just four defensive snaps. It’s nearly impossible to replace a player of Berry’s caliber, but the Chiefs are going to have to try. This week they added safety Reshard Langford to their roster, but could potentially use Donald Washington at the strong safety position. The entire team is going to have to step up with the loss of Berry and the secondary is going to have to come up big this week against the young gun Matthew Stafford. After playing just three games last season the quarterback looked poised and ready to go last week throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. The Chiefs’ defensive backs are going to have their hands full with Stafford and the one they call Megatron aka Calvin Johnson (if he plays).
The seven points that Kansas City scored last week is not going to cut it against Detroit. It’s going to be tough for Jamaal Charles to run the ball with the beast Ndamukong Suh clogging up the middle. The Lions gave up a measly 56 yards on the ground last week and they pride themselves on their hard hitting defense, so if the Chiefs are going to have success on the offensive side it’s going to be based in large part on how well Matt Cassell can throw the ball.
Coming into this game the Lions have won five straight regular season games going back to Week 14 of last season. This is their home opener at Ford Field so you know they’re going to be pumped. It’s going to be a real test for Coach Todd Haley and his entire team. You never want to say a game this early in the season is a must win, but with a road game against San Diego next week the pressure is on the Chiefs to get a W. They need to buckle up and find their identity as a football team.
