With Saturday’s save in Toronto, Mariano Rivera tied Trevor Hoffman for the all-time mark of 601. The Bombers are finally home after a 10-game road trip, and have eight games in the Bronx in seven days. Chances are Mo will get a save opportunity somewhere in familiar surroundings.
Minnie stops by for a quick makeup game Monday, followed by four games with the Rays, including a doubleheader Wednesday. Boston heads to the Bronx for the weekend set, and by then could no longer be in the lead for the Wild Card.
Rivera’s 42nd save capped a comeback win for the Bombers, and the Yankees fans in attendance stayed around to recognize Mo for tying the mark. Earlier in the month, he notched his eighth 40-save season. Only Hoffman has more (nine).
Just as Jeter became Mr. 3,000 in front of the home crowd, it seems only fair that Rivera get his time in the limelight in the Bronx. That time could be very soon.
