Like the Chargers had a chance…

Tom Brady wanted everyone to start drinking early, and it’s a good thing they did. This one was basically over from the get-go. What looked to be a solid AFC matchup just turned out to be another smooth victory for the Pats. The Chargers were supposed to come into Foxborough and give the Pats a game, but that was simply not the case.

Now yes, the score was close at times, but the Patriots were in control throughout. The biggest factor going into this game was how well the Patriots defense was going to play and how they were going to handle Rivers. Well, they forced two interceptions on him and held Antonio Gates to zero catches. Yes, Zero! Now they didn’t look spectacular, but they certainly looked better than last week. There is definitely some improvement to be made, but this young defense will get better throughout the year.

The turning point of the game was when the Chargers were driving at the end of the first half and Rivers made a poor pass that was picked off by Vince Wilfork. He made his 1st career interception worth while returning it into Chargers territory setting up a field goal for the Pats to end the half. Throughout the game, the Chargers had some opportunities, however could not take advantage and I applaud the Patriots defense for doing a great job against a pretty powerful offense.

As for the Patriots offense, they succeeded as usual. Brady threw for under 500 yards this game, however still posted 423 yards and 3 TDs. The TEs were huge factors again combining for 11 catches and 3 TDs. Deion Branch also stood out with an 8 rec/129 yard effort.

All in all this game was hyped up to be something it wasn’t. The Patriots offense dominated as they always do, and their defense made some big plays when they needed to most. Great win for the Pats. They take their 2-0 record to Buffalo next week for a decent divisional matchup.
