We Got PACKED

I don’t even know where to start with this one…I mean I am truly speechless…my team. (Super Sad Face) Cam Newton and Steve Smith combine for 4 turn over!!??!! It’s hard to even speak on ALL the things that went WRONG. From the 1st tick of the second quarter until the final tock of the game the Panthers failed. All afternoon fellow Team Panther fans said to me “look on the bright side, Cam looks GREAT!” To that I say, “SO!” All the record breaking in the world does NOT equal WINS. This is just PAINFUL. So to make myself feel better about the foolishness that occurred on the field, I will apply the positive negative positive sandwich to recap week two, Packers @ Panthers.
Brandon LaFell is shaping up to be the Panthers go to receiver. Jonathan Stewart is (and will be) the Panthers secret weapon. The times that the Panthers were able to score, LaFell and Stewart played major roles in getting the job done. Smitty put up positive yards. (Side-Eye) Honestly looking at the numbers side by side the Panthers offense is in great league company. (I’m trying to stay positive) Newton is surrounded by veteran players that are MORE than willing to assist the rookie in his pursuit of football greatness. On the other side of the ball the Panthers Defense limit the Packers scoring drives in what COULD have been a blowout game. The Panthers defense continues to impress me in the Red Zone. Charles Godfrey made some key stops in the 3rd quarter which helped contain the Packers offense.
And now for the bad…Anytime you turn the ball over FOUR times there is gonna be a problem. This problem just happens to have a name, CHARLES WOODSON! Every time the Panthers made a mistake Woodson was there to make it an opportunity for the Packers. Newton is clearly a great passer, but sometimes his accuracy is “thow’d off”. For all of his greatness and record setting he is equally green in the NFL QB position. (As evident by the number of interception) I can’t help but wonder how MUCH further his passing and rushing yards would be IF the mistakes were fewer…???… Clay Mathews scares me. He is relentless in his pursuit.
Fact remains that the Panther have to HAVE TO HAVE TO develop the running game! Have mercy! There has to be a balance. Stewart and Williams were the key to the Panthers most recent season success circa 2008-2009. Why? Because they were part of the game, now days the two combine for less than a quarter of the Panthers total yards. Yes Newton can throw the ball, nobody can deny that fact. But there’s so much more to being in that slot. For him to be a well-rounded and Play-Off contending QB he and the Panthers offense have to figure out a way to utilize Stewart and Williams. it is the only way to win games.
So there you have it. The Panthers are down but not out. All the parts will have to work together for the team to win. 0-2 is never how you want to start a season, but we are here now and everything from this point on will determine how short
long the season will be. Next week’s home game against the Jaguars “should” remove the stain of the double zero season start.
