NORMANDY VIKINGS LOOK FOR FIRST WIN
Posted By Sean Eckhardt On Sep 23 2011 @ 4:26 am In Minnesota Vikings | No Comments
Who would’ve ever thought that the D in D-Day would stand for Detroit, but this is a new day and that is a fact. The Minnesota Vikings host the Lions on Sunday in what is an absolute must-win situation.
During the past couple of years, the Vikings and Lions have been trending in different directions. Detroit has been getting younger and better, while the Vikings have been going in the opposite direction on both counts. The Lions have a young talented offense with QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson, but it is their defense that is really scary. Ndamukong Sue leads an increasingly vicious defense, that will be sue to give AP and the rest of the Vikings’ offense all kinds of problems. Donovan McNabb looked much better against Tampa than he did against San Diego, but his success, much like the rest of the Vikings was limited to the first half. Minnesota’s collapse in the second half was deplorable.
While the 2011 season has been a disappointment so far, there are some positives. Donovan McNabb looks pretty good, while Adrian Peterson is in a world of his own. Defensively, the Vikings will be welcoming back Pro Bowl DT Kevin Williams this week. He should help guys like Jared Allen, E.J. Henderson, and Chad Greenway dominate both the line of scrimmage as well as the mid-range area about five yards out.
The Vikings enter the game 0-2. Detroit is 2-0. Sounds weird, but it’s true. In order for Minnesota to get that first win, against a tough division opponent, they will have to play a complete 60 minutes of football. This team has two choices: 1) Play with intensity for the whole game and move to 1-2, or 2) Play the way they have been, go to 0-3, and enjoy the basement of the NFC North.
