ACC Opener Ends With Another Win For Georgia Tech

As Georgia Tech wraps up their ACC opener, those that based their record on the lack of competition have little to say now.
After a 35-28 victory over North Carolina (3-1) on Saturday, the Yellow Jackets are 4-0 for the first time since 1990. That was the season they shared the national title with Colorado.
On the first possession of the game, North Carolina drove for its only lead of the game. Giovani Bernard scored on a four yard run. The Yellow Jackets had to settle for a 23 yard field goal from Justin Moore on their opening possession. Thus breaking a three game streak in which they scored on their first offensive play.
They ended up saving that quick strike until halfway through the second quarter. Beginning at the 41, QB Tevin Washington fooled the Tar Heels into thinking they were going to run the ball. The UNC cornerback bit and Stephen Hill ran right by to grab the pass, pulling it in on the run and getting a touchdown.
The Yellow jackets may not have controlled this game like the first three, but they still had a big day offensively, gaining 496 total yards, 312 on the ground.
The Tar Heels fought hard as they tied the game at 28 with only 7:22 left in the game.
Responding to this, running back Roddy Jones snagged a seemingly unreachable pitch from Washington, sprinting down the sideline to the North Carolina nine yard line. With 5:20 left, Washington carries it in for the game winning touchdown.
Bernard had a great game, rushing for 155 yards and putting up two touchdowns. Hill did great as well, with six receptions for 151 yards including a 59 yard touchdown and an amazing, leaping, one-handed grab in the first half.
Hill could have had another score, but came up with a cramp or hamstring problem just as the ball arrived, causing him to drop a sure touchdown pass. He stumbled off to the sideline.
While Washington had a fumble and an interception, he completed 10 of 14 passes for 184 yards. He also ran for 74 yards and took quite a few hits from the Tar Heel defense.
Georgia Tech is off to a great start and must start preparing for game five, next Saturday against North Carolina State.
