The Streak is OVER! Bills Win!

Bills fans rejoiced Sunday after the Buffalo Bills beat the New England Patriots 34-31 in another remarkable come from behind win. It’s a little surreal to write those words, but I know first hand it’s real because I was there! Lady luck made our day, my uncle had 2 tickets to the game and knowing how much this game meant he offered them to me and my wife. With passports in hand we took the early morning drive to Buffalo to experience something that is really hard to put into words. As Rian Lindell kicked that 28 yard field goal with 3 seconds left, it felt like a huge sigh of relief came over the crowd and 8 years of losing to the Patriots were erased in a mere second. As I replay the game in my head, it truly is something that I won’t forget for a long time. I could go on for a long time about my emotions and how this must have felt to those players and the city of Buffalo, but if you’re reading this then you know what I mean.
Onto the game! Tom Brady was still racking up the yards but a slight twist this week…it came with 4 interceptions and a loss! You can throw 10 thousand yards in a season but does it really mean anything if you don’t win the game? You can also go undefeated during the regular season but without that trophy, who cares right? If I ever get a chance , I’ll ask Brady about that one! The Bills found themselves in a bigger deficit this week being down 21 early in the game. The Bills looked dead and I told my wife, “One more touchdown and we’re going home”, I’m pretty sure she would not have let us do that! Thankfully for me, Buffalo was able to string together 10 points before the half to cut the lead to 11, and it was game on from there.
Although, Brady was finding Wes Welker (16 rec/217 yds) open on almost every play, the Bills defense was able to create enough turnovers to give their offense a chance to win the game. Ryan Fitzpatrick put together 2 scoring drives to tie the ball game at 24. And then it happened! The moment that will define this Bills team, the 27 yard interception for a touchdown by Drayton Florence. This put the Bills up by 7 and even though the Patriots tied it the next drive I knew that with just over 3 minutes left that the Bills would win. Fred Jackson was the star for Buffalo’s last drive. He took a short Fitzpatrick pass 39 yards to the 1 yard line. It appeared that Jackson had gone in for the touchdown but after review his knee went down on the 1 yard line setting up the Bills for a game winning field goal. Again Lady Luck seemed to be rooting for us, since over turning the touchdown meant we could keep the ball out of Brady’s hands. Smart coaching by Chan Gailey, electing not to go for the touchdown but to down the ball, kill the clock and give no time for the Patriots to pull off the miracle.
With the Bills win, combined with the Jets losing to Oakland, this leaves Buffalo alone in first place. I’m very excited for what Buffalo will do with this win. I believe it will be enough to LEAD THE CHARGE all the way to the playoffs.
I love my Buffalo Bills, I just love them a little more this morning.
