Who would ever thought the Detroit Lions would be 3-0 so far this season?, I know not me but those football fans that do not know the Detroit Lions are getting better and better every year, almost every snap have been in a cave the last few years.
This Sunday we have the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys hosting the 3-0 Detroit Lions (2-0 on the road Detroit Lions). Both teams are playing good football and both records show that improvement. Most are going to say the Lions are the better team, more talent, less injuries etc etc etc, I do ask why than are the Cowboys the favorite?, hummmm, maybe because the Cowboys are no slouch out there and have also been playing some really good football and we’ll the Cowboys could be 0-3, they also could be 3-0 and have showed some great poise in winning their last two football games.
The Cowboys are a hurt bunch right now but that is not mentioned to make an excuse if the Cowboys are to lose the game but the facts are the facts and the Cowboys are walking wounded. Dallas QB Tony Romo, hurt is expected to play along with WR Dez Bryant, RB Felix Jones, the one key player the Cowboys will likely be missing is WR Miles Austin and in his absence others will have to step it up. The Cowboys will have to key in on not making the same mistakes that they did in the Washington win, missed snaps, snap counts, errant passes, dropped balls. The key factor for the Cowboys is who is going to cover Lions WR Calvin Johnson (CB’s Newman / Jenkins) and keeping him in check and hopefully not allowing Johnson the long ball and scores which leads me to Lions QB Matthew Stafford who has thrown for 9 TD’s already this young season and getting more and more comfortable in throwing the deep ball and having such great confidence in Johnson to bring in the ball. If the Dallas ‘D’ can contain Johnson, keep the pressure on Stafford than the Cowboys should come out victorious and I personally give Detroit a lot of credit but I like Dallas’ chances this week. Keep an eye on of course the leader of the Dallas defense DeMarcus Ware and Sean Lee (NFC player of the month-September) who has been playing some of his best football so far this season.
Special teams—special teams, good field position and a short field will help the Cowboys bring them the win. Congrats to Dan Bailey (NFC special teams player of the week-6 FG’s-lets hope that trend continues)
The ‘O’ line for the Cowboys has to give Romo time and just as important create gaps for the Dallas running game to hold the time of possession and keep the Lions offence off the field.
As in most football games this one will be close, it will be a good ole fashioned football game and my prediction is both teams leave Sunday at 3-1, go Cowboys….
as always comments, questions, concerns, my ears are ringing….
—NB—-notice no comment on all the news about last weeks game that is still getting media attention as comments made by both Romo and the Washington Redskins. Lets move on, week-4 is here….
