PSU Opens Big 10 Season in Indy

Joe Paterno’s 700th game on staff at Penn State will be spent in Indiana as the 3-1 Nittany Lions take on the 1-3 Hoosiers in the Big 10 opener.
PSU won last year’s contest at FedEx Field and hold a 14-0 overall series advantage.
After beating Easter Michigan last week, 34-6, the Nittany Lions press on with their two QBs, Matt McGloin (34-54, 421 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT) and Rob Bolden (33-71, 388 yds, 1 TD, 3 INT). McGloin spoke out this past week against the duet under center saying that it’s not an advantage to be on the sidelines and then get put back into a game, but I think Joe Paterno’s selective hearing will persisit.
Silas Reed will lead the rushing attack, 62 for 303 yds (4.9), 4 TD, and Derek Moye, 20 for 285 yds (14.2), 2 TD heads up the receiving corps. On defense Devon Still, Michael Mauti and Jordan Hill eack have 21 tackles to their credit, but Mauti will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in the Eastern Michigan game.
Matt Perez is the Hoosiers’ leading scorer, having rush 43 times for 132 yds (3.1) and 4 TD. Indiana’s lone win came against South Carolina State (38-21) but two of its three losses we by just three points (North Texas and Virginia). The Hoosiers fell to Ball St. by a TD.
Saturday’s game should not be a big deal but if the Nittany Lions DO struggle for some reason it’s time to sound the alarms and panic. PSU should win this game.
