Patriots Raiders Postgame

The Patriots definitely needed a bounce back win this week and indeed, they got it. The Patriots beat the Raiders 31-19 this afternoon to improve their record to 3-1. The Pats came off a bad loss last week to the Buffalo Bills and needed to rebound against a pretty solid team.

The biggest question mark going into today was Tom Brady and how many picks he was going to throw. Coming off a four int. week, Brady rebounded and threw zero interceptions today. He completed 16 passes for 226 yards and 2 TDs. The Patriots did decide to run the ball more this game combining for 29 rushes, Green-Ellis getting the majority. It was nice to see rookie Stevan Ridley contribute with 10 carries of his own for 97 yards and a score.  Welker had another solid day with 9 catches for 158 yards and a TD.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots had one goal in mind coming into the game; shut down Run DMC. The Patriots were pretty successful. McFadden only rushed the ball 14 times for 75 yards and no scores. Those aren’t bad stats, but while maintaining a lead most of the game, the Patriots were able to force the Raiders to throw the ball. Doing so resulted in two ints. from Campbell.

The Raiders gave the Pats a game early, but towards the end of the first half, the Patriots just took command. What was a highly anticipated game, turned out to be fun only for about the first 20 minutes. However, it was nice to see the Patriots take control and win this one. The Patriots had a much more balanced attack rather than just passing the ball all game. I definitely think this way key to their success today and I see much of the same moving forwards. The Patriots face their rival Jets next game which should be a good one. Expect plenty of trash talk from Rex Ryan going into next week. Only problem for Ryan is that his team is coming off 2 straight losses, including tonight’s embarrassing performance against the Ravens.
