Montreal Canadiens Roster is Finalized

UPDATE: Habs have claimed Blair Betts off of waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers. Roster below has been adjusted, including the demotion of Andreas Engqvist.

It appears as though the Montreal Canadiens roster is set for the 2011-12 NHL season.

Various reports this morning are suggesting that Jeff Woywitka, Michael Blunden and Aaron Palushaj will be sent to the Canadiens’ AHL Affiliate in Hamilton by today’s 3pm deadline. Blunden must first clear waivers at noon today, and Woywitka must be placed on waivers at noon in order to be sent down.

Habs fans can consider this good news, because it essentially means that Travis Moen is ready to go, Lars Eller may be ready for the season opener and Ryan White will not miss much time. This also means 2 rookies – Raphael Diaz and Alexei Yemelin – will be with Montreal, at least to start the year.

Here is the roster (max of 23 players) that GM Pierre Gauthier will in all likelihood file with the league today:

Forwards (13): Betts, Cammalleri, Cole, Darche, Desharnais, Eller, Gionta, Gomez, Kostitsyn, Moen, Pacioretty, Plekanec, White

Defense (8): Campoli, Diaz, Gill, Gorges, Spacek, Subban, Weber, Yemelin

Goalies (2): Budaj, Price

Injured reserve: Markov

With this roster, the Habs will have approximately $1.83M in cap space to start the season (including Markov), but that number will rise significantly if Andrei Markov is out for an extended period of time.
