Chiefs Ride Momentum Into Indy

The Chiefs will continue to ride their momentum as they head to Lucas Oil Stadium to face the Colts this week. They cannot afford a let down after finally getting their first victory last week. This is a perfect opportunity for the Chiefs to get another W and they can’t let it go to waste.
The Colts are not looking good right now. They’re one of four winless teams and are as desperate as the Chiefs were a week ago. Curtis Painter will likely make his second career start and you can bet the Chiefs’ defense will be putting pressure on him. The Colts’ offensive line is already injured, so that will be a big help to the Chiefs’ pass rush which has been sub par this season.
Painter showed signs of inexperience on Monday night against Tampa Bay, which was his first career start. He went 13 for 30 with 281 yards, but only completed four of his ten passes in the fourth quarter as the Colts tried to make a comeback. Painter is in a similar situation to the one Cassel was in a couple years ago when he also had to step in for a future Hall of Famer. It’s not an easy predicament to be in, but you have to play with the cards you’re dealt and fight every game.
Cassel is coming off his best performance of the season. He accumulated 161 of his 260 yards in the second half and had his lone touchdown as he was able to lead his team to victory. In order for the Chiefs to continue their success Cassel needs to play like he did in those final 30 minutes. They also need to get their running game going. Thomas Jones has been inefficient averaging 2.8 yards per carry and the team as a whole is only averaging 110.8 yards per game. If they aren’t able to get solid run production this week against the Colts’ defense, which ranks 28th in stopping the run then they have serious problems at running back.
With a bye next week the Chiefs have a chance to completely turn around their season and go into the break at 2-3. A win this week would give this team new life and new hope. Sometimes we get so caught up in the present that we forget the season is a marathon and not a sprint.
